“The Menachem Begin Heritage Center is pleased to partner with members of Congress in the United States and the International Leaders Summit to celebrate Israel's 75th anniversary on Capitol Hill and strengthen US-Israel ties,” said Herzl Makov, president of the Menachem Begin Center. “The friendship between Israel and the United States remains strong because of our shared values and mutual respect. The event in Washington, DC, is an excellent way to continue to affirm and celebrate this relationship.”
“America was the first nation to recognize Israel’s independence on May 14, 1948, and the partnership between America and Israel is stronger than ever,” said Joel Anand Samy, co-founder, International Leaders Summit and co-host, Jerusalem Leaders Summit. “When looking at the attempts by some, even on Capitol Hill, to give aid to the movement to boycott, divest and sanction the state of Israel, known as BDS, each one of us in free societies have a responsibility to stand firm in our shared principles, to address the scourge of anti-Semitism and to protect Jewish communities around the world.”
“Directing the first English-language feature documentary on Prime Minister Begin has been an eye-opening exploration of the heart and mind of one of the most iconic leaders of the 20th century,” said Jonathan Gruber, director of “Upheaval: The Journey of Menachem Begin.” “From his Eastern European roots to becoming an advocate and politician on the world stage, Begin's humility and modesty belie his courage and resilience. For better or for worse, he stood up for his ideals, and, ultimately, he held himself accountable to them. World leaders today would be wise to learn from someone who did not enrich himself through his position but fought for his values and beliefs on behalf of the people who elected him."
